Case study, from boring text to engaging e-learning

Case Study

Transforming a workplace safety course into interactive e-learning

Overview

I helped redesign a text-heavy internal training for a company with thousands of employees into an interactive e-learning experience. Using graphic design and illustration, I made complex content clearer, more engaging, and easier to retain—all while respecting confidentiality.

The challenge

The original course consisted of slides with dense technical text and minimal visuals, making it difficult for employees to engage and understand. The goal was to create a course that was learner-friendly, visually appealing, and easy to follow.

My role & collaboration

I worked as graphic designer and illustrator, collaborating closely with the Instructional Designer and Subject Matter Expert (SME). My focus was on:

  • Visual concept and layout
  • Digital illustrations to clarify concepts
  • Creating consistent visual hierarchy and flow
  • Supporting accessibility and usability

Design approach

  • Broke down complex information into digestible blocks
  • Used illustrations and icons to explain abstract or technical ideas
  • Designed consistent layouts to guide learners through the content

Outcome

The final product was an interactive e-learning course that transformed a static, text-heavy training into a learner-focused, engaging experience. The design improvements helped employees understand and retain information more effectively.
